Song of the Day: Melechesh - Negative Theology

I will admit that I find metal rooted in traditional music to be  one of the most engaging genres possible. From Orphaned Land to ChthoniC, from Kagrra to Rudra, I find myself enchanted by the timeless melodies that echo amidst the clanging chaos and the sounds of battle. Metal is meant to portray a battle - perhaps that is why some of the heaviest metal comes from Scandinavia, where vikings had once feasted in the name of Odin and planned their battles. In that line of thought, the Middle East should also produce music of battle, music of war, music steeped in blood and tears and sweat and history - and they do. Melechesh is one such band, and today's song of the day is a prime example of excellent metal.

And yes, there was no Song of the Day post yesterday... because I suck. I'm sorry!! It has been a very busy time. Whoever says you can't make a living as a freelance writer is a liar...but, it's a lot of work!

ARTIST PROFILE: Orphaned Land - Metal For A United People

Orphaned Land are a band that defies the normal standard of what a metal band should be. Hailing originally from Israel, their music is a call for peace between the different warring states, religions, and ethnicities. The premise is that through music, all people of the world can be united. It is with this in mind that Orphaned Land create their music.

For my first post here, I thought I'd share one of my favorite bands. Right now I'm really hooked on their music. They are Orphaned Land, an oriental metal band from Israel. They are amazing! They combine traditional melodies and instruments with modern influences. A song on its own is great to listen to; but the best way to enjoy Orphaned Land is to sit down and listen to a full album from beginning to end. (Which, by the way, is how albums should be. If the songs don't go together, and are just a jumbled mess, I like it less.)
