ARTIST PROFILE - RYUZO (R-Rated Records) - RYUZO Puts the R in R-Rated.

When you think "R" you think an R rated movie or Restricted, but in Japan a man has turned it into a household name in Japanese Hip Hop. I typically warn you when something I post will have some R-Rated material, but this R-Rated is entirely different and not the least less as entertaining as the OTHER R-Rated.

Song of the Day - 卍LINE - O.RE.O.RE.O

This is a very nice song with some beautiful landscape and 卍LINE's trademark reggae sound.

Song of the Day - California Love - Tupac

I remember back when I used to work at this one shitty ass chain clothing store, which shall remain dishonorably unnamed, this was legit the only song worth hearing that played on the in-store radio. I'm not even making it up, everything else was absolute shit, played on repeat. So, when I decided to stick up a Tupac song today for y'all's enjoyment, this was the first one I thought of.

Short Live Show Recap - Suaka at Saint Vitus Bar - July 23rd 2012

This past Saturday, I had the pleasure of catching a Suaka show at the undoubtedly haunted Saint Vitus heavy metal bar in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The night was fraught with ill luck, cameras not working and running out of batteries, strange shapes showing up in photos, and dead birds on the sidewalk.

Song of the Day - Get the Funk Out - Extreme

So, here's a quick Song of the Day post folks. I've had a rough weekend after hitting a show at a haunted nightclub on Saturday. Me and my ego's personal photographer had a fun time regardless, and managed to get some good shots of the band we were there to see. Expect reviews shortly, once I've had enough tea to be considered somewhat human.

INTERVIEW - JONNY 5 (FLOBOTS) - Cracking the Surface of a Musical Freedom Fighter

Recently I managed to catch Jonny 5 the lead vocalist of Flobots for an interview. This was very hard mind you since they're recording a new album and when I last spoke to him he was off the grid! I really appreciate him taking the time to answer me though! I did this entire interview on my phone and I can ride my bike with no handlebars ;)

Song of the Day - Chung Choon 98 - No brain

I'm back! Did you miss me? ....*silence*

Well, okay, beyond that point... here's your Song of the Day!!

I have always wondered if they have punk bands in Korea... well, today, I checked, and they do!

This one seems kind of an old video though. Anybody know some current bands? I'm curious.

Song of the Day - "NO ESCAPE" coldrain

Why, hello again. Nex here with another Song of the Day!

Today I bring you "NO ESCAPE" by the band coldrain. While I'm not the best at labeling genres, I'd say it's a post-hardcore - hardrock sound. Either way, it's a hard hitting song with great guitar work, and screaming in parts. The song itself was featured in a commercial for the popular game: Biohazard: Operation Raccoon City.
coldrain is one of those bands that have been consistently rising up in the rock scene in Japan. They're definitely a band worth checking out.

Mini-Album Review - SiM ``LiFE and DEATH``

SiM LiFE and DEATH
Release date: May 2, 2012
GILS-1002

I had heard of the band SiM before, but I never listened to them. It wasn't until I was wandering around a store in Shimokitazawa, Tokyo and walked past a display of their new Mini-Album, 『LiFE and DEATH』 that I actually heard their music. They had the music video for “AMY” playing, and I liked how it sounded, and they also looked cool. I felt very compelled to get the CD.
SiM (Silence iz Mine) lists their style as “REGGAE PUNK (STREET PUNK / HARD CORE / SCREAMO meets SKA / REGGAE)” on their website. Well, that pretty much sums up the sound of LiFE and DEATH. It's a very intriguing mix that really works for them. I'll be honest, I have never heard anything like it.

Song of the Day - RIGHT NOW - GOOD4NOTHING

Hey, it's me Nex. This is my first Song of the Day!

Todays song is "RIGHT NOW" by GOOD4NOTHING. I only recently heard about this band. GOOD4NOTHING is a melodic pop punk band. The song is about not letting anyone else rule your life, and making your own decisions. The good old "Fuck Authority" of punk themes. It's a fun song, and fun video, so check it out!

Katherine's Big Five

Alright, since we've had RYO and Nex put up their lists of top-five favorite artists, it's about time I got on that also. Now, it was a bit of a difficult time for me to make this list. I like A LOT of different musicians. Often we all like the same things (for example, we all love Rize, even if only Nex listed them). Other times, we are quite different from each other.

Top 5 from Nex

It's been a month, and I've only just begun posting. I never introduced myself yet, I'm Nex. Rising Sun Freestyle has grown a lot the past month, and it's because of readers like you, and the consistent effort from Ryo and Katherine. I'll do my best to live up to their standards.
So we're posting our top 5 bands, and talking about a recently discovered band.

Nex's top 5 are as follows:

Song of the Day - Gee - SUICIDEMAYA [SNSD cover]

Okay, before anyone laughs, I don't always listen to SNSD. Not nearly often enough to warrant owning a Genie poster of them - but it's okay, they're hot. However, here is a way to enjoy SNSD without having to turn in your man card (and/or Marauder badge).

1 Month Anniversary! (Thank you so much!)

Wow, it's been a month already and we've already done so much and there are so many people to thank, from the readers to the people who have allowed me to interview them and of course Katherine and Nex who without, this could not have been possible. It's only been one month, but I am optimistic that we will be able to spread more good music to even more people as we go along. Thank you all so much! To end this I would like to name my top 5 favorite artists/bands of all time, something that we as a whole have been wanting to do for a while, but had yet to find it appropriate. Anyway, thank you again and here goes nothing! Okay, not nothing, this was very hard to sort out the top 5! Not including anything that I've already mentioned on here was tough, but I managed not to.

LIVE REPORT - RIZE 2012 TOUR FINALE, AKASAKA BLITZ

Live Report – RIZE 2012 TOUR FINALE, AKASAKA BLITZ
Date: May 27, 2012
Location: Akasaka BLITZ
Written by Nex
Photos by Dao, Kai, and Nex (edited by Nex)

Outside Akasaka Blitz, the place was buzzing with people

This wasn't my first time seeing RIZE, or meeting the members of the band. However, as I road the train to Akasaka, my heart was still racing. RIZE never fails to deliver an awesome show. It doesn't matter how many times I see them, or meet them, I'll always be psyched to see them. They have an infectious energy and passion that hypes people of all ages and lifestyles. So as I walked up the stairs of the station, and the RIZE flag came into view, I couldn't help but grin from ear to ear.

Song of the Day - Kamisori - DuelJewel

Ok, ok, before I listen to this song a fifth time in a row, I'll just put this here.

I figured, since my last chanson du jour was something from when I was 15, let's move slightly forward through time and look at what a rabbit hole I fell into at age 16. If we'll keep up the metaphor, DuelJewel were that suspicious white rabbit that I followed through the burrow.
